It's that time, y'all! You know what I'm talking about: the waiting for orders, movers, kid activities, spouse activities, and friends playing the same semper gumby wait game that you are. PCS Season.
We've all been there. This is the epitome of a planner's hell. Seriously, there goes planning for a vacation or school or anything beyond the next couple of months. Oh yeah and packing your full house either by yourself of with our favorite military movers. (Insert all the sarcasm here)
We all know this period stinks but we thrive as spouses and we make things happen. Essentially, we get shit done. De-cluttering and organizing our homes are our forte. So why not make some extra cash in the process?
Decluttr – sell CDs, DVDs, Games, Blu Rays and anything tech. Enter the barcode on your CDs, DVDs, Games and Books into the system and receive an instant offer. You can even sell old LEGOs.
ThredUp – simply order a clean out package and they will ship you a bag for all of your items. Once they receive it, they will clean & professionally photograph for you before adding to their listings.
Poshmark – download their app and you can list items straight from your phone. Once you make a sale, they will provide you with all shipping materials.
Swap – very similar to ThredUp but they also accept clothes, toys, and games for babies and kids.
Mercari – you can literally buy and sell almost anything! An easier to use version of Ebay, except that all listings are free and only 10% of a commission is taken upon a sale.
Tradesy – similar to Poshmark, once you download the app you can list your items quickly and easily. You can even list wedding items here.
These are all really awesome ways to make extra cash but make sure you're showcasing your sales the right way. Sorry, no one is gonna want to buy your stuff if its wrinkled laying next to a pile of laundry. Follow these tips for success to ensure you get the best deal for your items.
1) Take great photos. Make sure you have good lighting and take several shots from various poses.
2) Set a reasonable price. Make sure you use the 1/3 rule if you're not sure how to set your pricing. This should typically be at or around 1/3 of the average retail price.
3) Be very specific. ‘Medium.Old Navy. Like New” isn't as great as “Medium, Women's Paisley Top, Old Navy, Summer 2015”.
4) Use Your Manners. Being polite to buyers will go a long way.
I wish you all the best during this season of change. Don't forget to treat yourself to a massage and/or spa day when your move is complete!
