No idea what captioning jobs are? It’s super easy and I guarantee you have seen the work. The captions are for the hearing-impaired and are broadcast mostly via television. And I know you’ve seen the misspelled words so clearly there are humans doing these tasks.
The great part? You can actually make a fantastic income with these jobs and the better you are, the more you can make. How to get to $5k per month? Work for multiple captioning companies. The basic requirements are a quiet work space, reliable computer, and high speed internet.
I’ve put together a list of the best and most lucrative companies to work with. There are application processes of course but you can generally be up and running within a week (or even sooner).
Rev – you will work on classic TV shows, modern movies, educational videos, and more. Earn $0.40-$0.75 per video minute. Paid weekly, via PayPal. Average monthly earnings: $240. Top monthly earnings: $1570. You set your own schedule and can work as much or as little as you want.
Aberdeen – Real-time start at around $75 per hour. Other captioners begin between $12-$15 per hour. Knowledge of Bible/Christian terminology is needed for some positions. They offer various other work from home positions as well.
Vitac – transcribe and caption programs that air on the Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, the Travel Channel, PBS, BBC America, Sundance Channel, Lifetime, and many others. Offers PTO, 401K, and paid holidays.
If you are interested in furthering your career with transcription, then starting out as a captioner is the way to go. Most transcription opportunities require some sort of captioning/writing and these positions would fill the bill.
Good luck!
