Our spouse community in the military is incredibly unique and amazing. We have those that are incredibly outgoing, some a little more reserved, and others who are more introverted. Then we have those like me. The introvert/extrovert. I’m outgoing when I need to be but I’d prefer to me doing my own thing (reading, crafting, etc.).
These are AWESOME traits no matter how we identify ourselves!
Networking is about meeting all different types of people on our job hunt. Every Fred needs a Barney and every Thelma needs a Louise.
There are tons of ways to network in your community as well as online. Getting involved in your unit and spouse clubs is HUGE! Some of my favorite resources I met years ago in those same groups.
Online networking is huge as well. LinkedIn is probably the best way to make your professional presence known. Be sure to maintain a professional look to your profile (no wine night photos) but attempt to stand out from the crowd. It’s a great way to also let others know you are interested in a new job or career.
The USO has also launched a program called Coffee Connections. These are meetups located at bases all over the country for all branches. Be sure to register beforehand (totally free) to save your spot.
Stepping out of our comfort zone is never easy but you could potentially be stepping into your dream position.
